Context
XP implemented a turn-key Gas-to-Power project at an onshore facility in Eastern Europe, enabling the monetization of associated gas that was previously flared, vented or inefficiently utilized.
Challenges
The field was characterized by:
- Associated gas being burned in boilers, flared or vented
- No available gas delivery pipeline
- Mature and depleted production profile
- Suboptimal artificial lift systems
- High emissions intensity
The operator faced a dual constraint:
- Environmental objectives to reduce emissions
- Operational need to optimize asset performance
Without infrastructure to export gas, the associated gas had limited economic value and contributed to unnecessary emissions.
XP’s approach
XP implemented a 10MUSD integrated decarbonization and optimization program.
Turn-Key Gas-to-Power Installation
- Engineering, procurement and construction of a 2 MW gas-to-power system
- Installation of 2 gensets of 1 MW each
- Conversion of ~10 KSm³/day of associated gas into electricity
Artificial Lift upgrade
- Redesign of artificial lift systems
- From Gas lift to ESP’s
- New well completions implemented
Surface facilities Optimization
- Surface facilities optimization
- Removed complete gas compression station
- Improved operational efficiency of the mature field
Results Achieved
The Gas-to-Power project generated significant measurable outcomes Improving economic sustainability of the asset.
Production & Operational Performance
Generating 15 MWh per day
Reduced reliance on external power sources
Environmental Performance
Reduction in GHG emissions
Reduction in energy intensity
